How Annual Leave Entitlement Is Calculated

In the UK, almost all workers are legally entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks of paid holiday per year. For someone working a standard five-day week, that works out to 28 days — which is also the statutory cap.

To find a part-time entitlement, you take the full-time allowance and scale it by the days worked. For example, on a 28-day full-time allowance, someone working three days a week is entitled to 28 × (3 ÷ 5) = 16.8 days. That is exactly what the calculator above does.

Whether bank holidays are included within that allowance or given on top is up to the employer — so always check your contract. Once you know the entitlement, the harder part is tracking it accurately across a team as people book days, carry leave over, and start mid-year.
